Scuff Resistance Tester rubs two printed surfaces against each other (face-to-face) in the same plane, at the same speed (60 rpm), under a constant rubbing pressure. The rub test equipment can be used in Paper & Packaging industries to evaluate colour transfer from printed or coated surfaces during rubbing.

The sample is attached to the base of the tester with the printed side up. A 2 psi test weight is attached to the sample and placed in position over the sample so that the printed sides are face to face. (Ensure use of customer specified material in place of the sample where required by customer). The tester is pre-set for the number of strokes (typically 100 cycles) and the machine is started as per the customer specification. After the required number of strokes, the samples is examined for any signs of ink transfer or scuffing.

Dimension:

The ability of rubber products to withstand repeating flexing without developing cracks is of prime importance where such products are used in conditions undergoing repeating flexing. The flexing endurance of rubber products is determined by simulating in the laboratory the action of flexing repeatedly under standard conditions of speed, mode, and degree of flexing. One of the accepted procedure is the use of a De-Mattia Flexing Tester. This tester provides useful information about the resistance of compounds of vulcanized rubber to flex cracking when subjected to flexing. Cracks develop in that part of the surface where stresses are set up during flexing, or if that part of the surfaces initially contains a crack, cause this crack to extend in a direction perpendicular to the stress.

The “IKON” De-Mattia Flex Tester consists of a set of grips to hold the test specimens in two tiers with their holding faces lying in the same vertical plane. The flexing and unflexing action is provided by holding one end of the test specimens in a fixed grip and the other end in a reciprocating grip. The set of grips has two fixed grips and one large reciprocating grip positioned between them in order to flex half of the test specimens while the other half is being unflexed. The reciprocating grip is fitted with gun metal cushion which slide on hardened and ground rods made of high carbon steel. The reciprocating motion is provided by an eccentric and linkage mechanism driven by an electric motor through V-belt and pulleys. A six digit counter with reset is provided for indicating the number of test cycles undergone.

The equipment is build on a rigid cast iron base plate and finished in hammer tone painting and bright chrome plating to give it a corrosion resistant finish.

Molding dies for preparing test specimen, and jig and punch assembly for making initial crack in test specimens for crack growth test are available as optional accessories.

Introduction:

The property of a fabric which enables it to recover from folding deformations is called as Wrinkle Recovery Tester. The IKON Wrinkle Recovery Tester is used for determining the appearance of textile fabrics after induced wrinkling. Wrinkle recovery tester is applicable to fabrics made from any fibre or combinations of fibre. However, until recently separate estimation of fineness and maturity were possible only through laborious procedures using conventional methods.

The use of the simple air-flow method was capable of providing only the micronaire value (Mc) which is influenced by both fineness and maturity. Considerable work has, therefore, been going on in various research laboratories to modify the air-flow method to make it capable of providing separate estimates of fineness and maturity. The fineness tester has been modified 5,6 to obtain independent estimates of fineness and maturity. A separate estimation of fineness would help in deciding the spinning limit of cotton and in getting an accurate prediction of yarn strength from fibre characteristics. The estimates of maturity would help in the detection and avoidance of immature cottons which are prone to neppiness and dyeing problems.

Principle

A test specimen is wrinkled under standard atmospheric conditions in a standard wrinkling device under a pre-determined load for a prescribed period of time. The specimen is reconditioned in the standard atmosphere for textile testing and evaluated for appearance by comparison with 3-dimensional reference standards.

Equipment

Wrinkle recovery tester consists of a Base with a Stand. At the base of the stand a fixed flange is fitted with a top flange which is moveable and attached with a locking pin. The instrument also comprises of three weights of 500, 1000 and 2000 g. The appearance of the specimen is compared against an optional photographic scale which can be procured separately and is not included with the above equipment.

The ability of textiles to recover from creases is determined by measurement of its creases recovery angle . In this test the test specimen is first creased under a specified load for specified period of time and is then transferred to the angle measuring device where one of its ends is held in a spring loaded clamp while the other end is allowed to fall freely under its own weight . This clamped end is slowly rotated till the free end becomes vertical . The angle of deflection of the clamped end from the horizontal is read on a scale fixed to the ability of textiles to recover from creases is determined by measurement of its creases the moving clamp . This angle gives the measure of the crease recovery.

The Crease Recovery Tester for fabrics consists of an arrangement to crease a rectangular test specimen under a specified load for the specified duration of time and an arrangement to measure the crease recovery angle . Creasing is carried out by pressing the folded test specimen under a load of 1 Kg between two flat surfaces . The load is applied by mean of the dead weight of the upper flat surface . The arrangement for measurement of crease recovery angle has a anodized aluminum scale calibrated in degrees mounted on a mounted on a vertical disc . The disc can turn about the axis of the scale and has a spring loaded clamp located on 00 to hold one end of the test specimen . The free end of the test specimen can be aligned against a vertical edge fitted in front of the disc.

The test specimen is mounted on a brass strip for convenience in use and is creased and held in the clamp while still fixed onto it.
